The state of affairs surrounding the Google Core Update 2021

by | June 15, 2021 | Google, Website, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) | 0 Comments

Last month we posted a blog about the Google Core Update 2021. This was postponed until August, because the update on page experience would not be rolled out until mid-June. Google chose this to offer website owners the opportunity to optimize their website with regard to the page experience before the actual update was rolled out. In this blog we discuss the current state of affairs surrounding the Google Core Update 2021.

Two Core Updates

The June 2 Core Update started rolling out on Wednesday, June 2021. Danny Sullivan announced that we can also expect a July 2021 Core Update next month. In our previous blog we discussed that the update will be fully rolled out in August, with a number of features already available for use in June. In the meantime, however, Google has indicated that some improvements for the June 2021 update are not yet ready to release this month. It has therefore been decided to release the parts that are already ready in the June 2021 update and to roll out the remaining improvements in July 2021.

What are the effects?

So there are two updates: one in June and one in July 2021. Google indicates that, as with any update, you can expect your positions to increase, decrease, or remain the same. They also mention that influences from the June update can be reversed with the July update. However, you don't have to worry that the June update will have major consequences for your positions: Google states that most websites usually do not notice the updates. If it happens that the positions of your website change negatively due to the June 2021 update, Google will provide advice on what you can best do. Google mentions that there are no specific actions you need to take to fix this effect, because a drop doesn't necessarily indicate that something is wrong with the web pages. The advice is to wait for the July 2021 update, as it will probably correct the declines. However, you can release a questionnaire that you can complete when your website is affected by a Core Update. Unlike other Google Core Updates, few website owners will notice any effects on their rankings. Changes can usually be seen within 24 hours after such an update. In the case of the June 2021 update, these effects only showed up after three days, if not more. In addition, these effects are also less strong than usual.

Future expectations

So it remains to be seen what the effects of the July 2021 update will be. If you were affected by the June 2021 update, the July update will likely reverse these drops. As far as the page experience is concerned, there have been no new updates from Google yet. When your website SEO technical is in order, you don't have to worry that the updates will have major effects on your website.
