Telling a story helps to create a bond with your target group. However, as a company you cannot just tell a story. First of all, the story must attract the customer's attention. Moreover, it also has to be about something. Telling a story op social media, or social media storytelling, is now an indispensable part of a company's marketing plan. In this article we explain more about storytelling on social media and its effect on the target group.

What does storytelling on social media mean?

When we talk about storytelling, we talk about telling a story. You will probably think of literally telling a story. However, storytelling on social media works differently. On social media you only have a few seconds to grab the attention of your target group. So you have to tell your story in such a way that it stands out from all other information. You can think of videos, infographics or visuals.

Gain trust

The purpose of storytelling is to gain trust by connecting with your target group. Social media is mainly about emotion. When you get emotional about something (positive or negative), you are likely to remember it more quickly. Below we give a number of tips on how to best tell a story on social media.

Know your target group

The best way to gain the trust of your target group is to tell a story that matches their wishes, needs and interests. So make sure you know your target group before you devise a strategy. How old is your target group on average? Are they mainly men or women? What problems do they encounter in daily life? So make sure your story connects with the audience.

Tell your story

Once you've constructed a story, it's time to build it to tell. It is best to do this via social media in a way that immediately attracts the attention of the target group. For example, use striking colors or sounds. Moving images have always worked well to attract the attention of the target group on social media. Respond to this by, for example, making a nice video with some text that directly informs the target group.

Interactivity

Interactive posts have always worked well to create more engagement from the target group. You then give them the idea that they can contribute to your story. So, for example, create a poll or ask the audience a question.
