Natural link building? Google finds more good than you think

by | May 24, 2018 | link Building | 6 comments

Link building is the way to get higher in Google. We explain how to get a natural link profile and tell you which links are more natural than you think. Because actually – and you might not have expected this – the websites that rank high in Google are at the top in a way that seems unnatural. Indeed: that seems Like this. The video in this article explains in detail why it is allowed to build your link profile with their strategy.

Natural links

Building a good link profile works best with natural links. These are links that are placed in an editorial manner in an article or other web page. The writer of that page has then decided to link to you. That person does this, for example, because he finds your website useful or because you have written a blog article that is so valuable that he wanted to mention it. Do you often write valuable content? Then you can quickly get a natural link profile.

'Unnatural' links

In principle, all paid links are unnatural. Yet many companies advertise through blogs, which is actually 'unnatural'. But does this variant of external link building help you rank higher in the search results? Of course! A lot of companies use this tactic for a good link profile. It may take some time to approach bloggers for collaborations, but you will get a lot of valuable in-content links. Would you rather leave this work to us? We are happy to pitch for you to a large network of bloggers.

If you have hundreds of bloggers linking to your website per month, this is unnatural. That is certainly not the intention. But do you choose 5 bloggers per month who also have a large network, for example? Then it is best to use this as a natural link building method.

Natural link building method: guest blogging

You can have bloggers link to your website, but you can also guest blog yourself. Make sure you write valuable content that adds value to the website where the article is posted. Sometimes you are allowed to link internally. If this is not allowed, you can always place a link at the bottom of the article. There is usually something about the writer – you, in this case.

Tip: on our marketplace you will find an offer to have your guest article posted.

Natural links by bloggers

Do you actually have time to guest blog when you would prefer to invest all your time in your business? Getting natural links will cost you a lot of time this way. Then approaching bloggers remains the most efficient method for natural link building. Have you already approached bloggers yourself? We write articles for you at an attractive, low price. Saves you time again! A short article will cost you even less. Check out our marketplace for more options.

Google guidelines for natural link building

In the video above, Marie Haynes – expert in (un)natural links – explains more about natural link building. Google has guidelines for this, which are looser than you might have thought. For example, you are allowed to ask friends for links and it is also allowed to receive links from (valuable) link directories. In addition, there are many more ways to get natural links, all of which Haynes explains to you. This video is definitely worth watching!

Natural link building through home pages?

The video talks about home pages. Marie Haynes says it's a misunderstanding that people think you shouldn't have your link there. She says the opposite: if it is a valuable homepage, without spam, then this can be a very good backlink. Even if these are 'homemade links'. That does not matter. It remains a valuable and natural link according to Haynes.

In fact, links from home pages had already proven themselves. High positions in Google are still achieved by... link building strategy achieved using home pages. So you can see that Google does find links on home pages interesting and valuable, as long as the directory is not a spam website and places quality links.

Unnatural links according to Google

In various videos from Google, expert Matt Cutts explains which links are and are not natural. In this video Cutts explains, for example, that links in footers are better made no-follow. Footerlinks are unnatural. So you don't want your link there. It is possible, of course, but it is better to make it no-follow: then you will at least still get visitors who click through to your website.

Hey Rik, ultimately it should be possible for every entrepreneur to share his/her website wherever they want. Even without the thought or knowledge about link building, I don't think Google would punish immediately. For example, consider an entrepreneur who is active on a forum and has the website in his/her footprint. This means that there may be thousands of links coming from a single website/domain. Is this then unconsciously bad for his SEO for this entrepreneur? I do not think so!

The dividing line between natural and unnatural is slowly disappearing. According to Google, active link building is also unnatural, even though it works very well.

      Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your addition and indeed it works well, but we also see that with all our customers. It's a shame that a wrong image was created for many companies in the past, but most are slowly changing again.
